Babu Owino Most Preferred Luo Kingpin – Report

Babu Owino

Babu Owino

A new survey by Infotrack Research has revealed that Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is the most preferred successor of the late Raila Odinga as the Luo Kingpin.

The report released on Sunday, December 28, showed that Babu was the favourite pick of 33 percent of the respondents.

The ODM MP was followed by Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga at 10 percent, while Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga placed third with seven percent.

Siaya Governor James Orengo garnered four percent support, with Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo each polling at two percent.

Treasury CS John Mbadi, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, lawyer Miguna Miguna, EALA MP Winnie Odinga and Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko were also listed in the survey with 1 percent each.

However, the poll showed that 37 percent of the respondents were not sure who should be the next Luo community Kingpin.

Meanwhile, the report also revealed that President William Ruto is the most preferred presidential candidate in the 2027 General election.

According to the poll, President Ruto 28 percent of Kenyans surveyed would vote to re-elect President Ruto in the next general election.

President Ruto was followed by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i with 13 per cent support.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka came in third place at 12 per cent while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino garnered seven per cent.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received five per cent, while People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga were tied at two per cent each.

Even with those numbers, the survey flags significant voter uncertainty, with 31 per cent of respondents still undecided and a further four per cent declining to name their preferred presidential candidate.
