The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru has emerged as the winner in Thursday’s by-election in Ol Kalou constituency.
Kamau garnered 35,440 votes to win the by-election, while UDA’s Samuel Muchina came in a distant second with 5,450 votes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Kamau as the Ol Kalou MP-elect and handed him the certificate.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua congratulated Kamau for winning the by-election, saying his victory reflects the unmistakable voice of the people.
“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency.
“You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people. We thank the Almighty God for this great victory,” Gachagua wrote.
The DCP Party leader also thanked Ol Kalou constituency residents for voting for Kamau in the by-election en masse.
” Thank you, my great people, for refusing to sell your birthright and for being wise enough not to fall for the deception of development projects. Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas,’ Gachagua stated.
Further, he congratulated Nyandarua Senator John Methu Gitungati and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia Ngatha who led the DCP campaigns in Ol Kalou.
“I salute our campaign leaders, Hon. John Methu Gitungati and Hon. Wanjiku Muhia Ngatha, for their outstanding leadership and guidance throughout the three-month campaign. I was deeply impressed by the way you organized and led us,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has congratulated Kamau for the win and urged him to serve Ol Kalou residents well.
“Congratulations, Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau, on your imminent victory in the by-election held today for the MP seat for Ol Kalou constituency,” said Kindiki.
