Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has declared he will run for President in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Sunday, January 11, during a church service in Siaya County, Owalo said he consulted wisely before deciding to vie for the country’s top seat.
“I have consulted extensively with various stakeholders and interest groups. I want to state without fear of contradiction that come 2027, I will submit my candidature for the presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Owalo said.
Owalo has also resigned from his position as the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Office of the President.
In a statement, Owalo said his continued stay in government was no longer viable after announcing his presidential ambitions.
“Following my declaration earlier today that I intend to run for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the year 2027, my position as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency is no longer Tenable. I have therefore resigned from the position with immediate effect,” Owalo stated.
The former CS is the latest politician to announce presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.
This comes days after lawyer Miguna Miguna announced he will run for President in next year’s election.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 7, Miguna said he is decision to run for President is driven by a transformative vision anchored on the interests of ordinary Kenyans.
“I am going to contest the election for the presidency of Kenya in 2027. I am going to do it on a transformative vision, a vision that identifies the interests of the people of Kenya as the core and foundation of moving the country forward. A vision that is built on integrity and socialism, not capitalism,” Miguna said.
