Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s staff have been sent on compulsory leave following his impeachment.
In a memo seen by KDRTV, senior officers and advisors in the office of the Deputy President were required to comply with the directive by Saturday noon.
“Following the ongoing Constitutional process affecting His Excellency the Deputy President, it has been decided as follows; All officers in Job Groups T and U are hereby instructed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect,” the memo reads in part.
“All serving officers in Supernumerary Contracts shall also proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.”
All Heads of Department have also been instructed to ensure that they designate, in writing, a responsible officer in charge of their respective departments, with a copy to the Chief of Staff and the Principal Administrative Secretary.
The affected staff includes; Wanjiku Wakogi (Chief of Staff), Ibrahim Rashid Ahmed (advisor), Jane Wangui Kiringai (advisor), Paul Tirimba Machogu (advisor), Murimi Murimi Murage (advisor), Catherine Njeri Rugene (advisor) and Nancy Wambui Kangethe (Chief of Staff, OSDP),
George Theuri (advisor), Munene Gathondu Pius (private secretary), Eric Gichuhi Wachira (Deputy Chief of Staff), Margaret Winnie Muthoni Namusonge (advisor), Ngunjiri Wambugu (advisor), Richard Nzioki Muteti (advisor), Allan Waweru Mburu (advisor) and Leonard Saningo Ngaluma (Secretary Administration) have also been affected.
Others are; Jefwa Arnold Mkare (Secretary Administration), Rose Wangari Gakuo (Secretary of state Functions), and Mwongela Francis Mikwa (Secretary, Press Services).
This comes a day after President William Ruto nominated Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to take over as Deputy President following Gachagua’s impeachment.
However, the High Court in Nairobi on Friday issued an interim order blocking Gachagua’s replacement after the Senate upheld the National Assembly’s decision to impeach him.
