The leader of the minority in the National Assembly Junet Mohamed has broken silence on social media reports that he is aiming for the Interior Cabinet Secretary Position if Kithure Kindiki is sworn in as the Deputy President.
In a statement on Saturday, October 26, Junet denied being interested in replacing Kindiki in the powerful docket.
The Suna East MP also noted that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party has not submitted his name to President Ruto for consideration.
“H.E President William Samoei Ruto continues to broaden his government to conform to the wishes of Kenyans on national inclusion, service delivery, governance, democracy, and stability of the Nation.
“In this context, I have been made aware of unfounded innuendoes to the effect that I have shown interest in the position of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration and, or, that the ODM Party has submitted my name for consideration in such a role,” said Junet.

He went on to state that he is currently fixated on his new role as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, having taken over from former Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who was appointed by President Ruto to head the Energy and Petroleum portfolio as Cabinet Secretary.
“Whereas an opportunity to serve fellow Kenyans in any capacity is always welcome, I wish to inform the public that I am neither one of the people angling for the job nor has the ODM Party shown any interest in seeking to have another party expert join the government in that capacity,” Junet added.
“In any case, I have just recently assumed the leadership of the Minority Party in the National Assembly which is an equally very important constitutional office in our governance architecture.”
The clarification comes a day after Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku alleged that the Raila Odinga-led party had settled on Junet to occupy the powerful post in the National Executive.
