Linda Mwananchi Team Announces Location of Next Rally

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that the next Linda Mwananchi rally will be held in Taita Taveta County.

In a statement on Monday, July 13, Sifuna said the movement would press on with its nationwide mobilisation campaign despite the violence witnessed over the weekend.

“We shall keep moving. We have a country to save. We have no other choice than to keep moving.

“Let’s meet in Taita Taveta on Saturday; I hear the preferred mode of transport is the SGR, or President Ruto can stop it at Tsavo?” Sifuna questioned.

This comes a day after separate Linda Mwananchi events in Kisumu City and Nyahururu town were disrupted by violence from hired goons.

In Kisumu, violence broke out outside St. Stephen’s ACK Cathedral, where Sifuna, James Orengo and other leaders had attended a church service.

According to the National Police Service, a violent confrontation between two opposing groups in Kisumu City left one person dead and several others injured.

The violent clashes also resulted in the torching of nine motorcycles and damage to a police vehicle.

Police officers intervened swiftly, leading to the arrest of eight suspects who are being held in custody pending arraignment in court. Investigators are also pursuing other individuals believed to have participated in the violence.

In Nyahururu Town, police said a separate group attempted to disrupt a political rally by pelting stones at attendees, causing minor injuries to several members of the public.

Among those injured was Joseph Gitau, who sustained a chest injury. Police said he received treatment and was later discharged from hospital.

NPS  also dismissed reports alleging that a shooting occurred during the Nyahururu incident.

“Contrary to some allegations, there was no shooting incident,” the statement said.

Six suspects were arrested in connection with the disruption and remain in police custody awaiting arraignment.
