Cleophas Malala
DCP Deputy Party leader Cleophas Malala has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.
In a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, Malala accused Barasa of recruiting and financing criminal gangs to intimidate political opponents in the county.
The former UDA Secretary General claimed he has credible evidence from both alleged victims and individuals purportedly involved in the gangs, claiming they were hired to intimidate, assault and silence dissenting voices across Kakamega County.
“We have credible, verifiable and undeniable evidence gathered from both victims of his gang attacks and members of the gang, who confess in confidence to having been hired to intimidate, attack and maim citizens who publicly oppose the governor’s political ideologies, especially his re-election in 2027,” he alleged.
Malala also alleged that the gangs have been involved in breaking into homes of perceived political opponents, destroying property, and carrying out attacks both during the day and at night.
He cited an incident that allegedly occurred last week during a consultative meeting with his supporters in the Harambee area of Matungu Constituency along the Mumias-Bungoma road.
The former Kakamega Senator claimed that armed individuals disrupted the gathering by attacking attendees with machetes, stones, and other crude weapons.
Malala demanded the immediate arrest of Governor Barasa, the removal and prosecution of the Kakamega County police commander and Matungu OCPD, and the arrest of individuals allegedly responsible for insecurity in the county.
“I demand that Governor Barasa be immediately arrested and charged for using criminal gangs to brutalize, instill fear among the citizens, and advance his selfish political agenda,” he stated.
He also called on senior government and police officials to issue a public statement assuring residents of improved security and the restoration of law and order in affected areas.
