The third edition of the Belgut Half Marathon raised millions of shillings to support the education of needy, orphaned and vulnerable students in Belgut Constituency, Kericho County.
The annual event, which was held on Sunday, August 23, attracted more than 25,000 runners and thousands of residents.
The marathon featured three race categories — a 21-kilometre half marathon, a 10-kilometre race and a 5-kilometre community fun run.
Notable elite athletes who participated in the event were Sandra Felis Chebet, Diana Chekemoi, Miriam Chebet, Edwin Bett, Leonard Barsoton and Kyumbe Munguti.
The race also drew some of Kenya’s biggest athletics names, with marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge and Sheila Chepkirui among the high-profile figures in attendance.
Senior government officials led by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, and Interior PS Raymond Omollo graced the event.
Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek and Japeth Nyakundi of Kitutu Chache North were also present.
The event, which is organized by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, has continued to combine athletics with a fundraising drive aimed at keeping vulnerable students in school.
The million raised in the 2026 edition is expected to provide a significant boost to bursary and scholarship programmes supporting needy learners across Belgut Constituency.
