Sammy Kamau Sworn in as Ol Kalou Member of Parliament

Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru was on Tuesday, July 28, officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou constituency.

Kamau formally assumed office as the Ol Kalou Constituency MP after taking the Oath of Office and signing the official Oath Register.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) legislator was accompanied by Kipipiri MP, Wanjiku Muhia, and Roysambu MP, Augustine Kamande Mwafrika.

The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the late David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026 after a short illness.

In the by-election held on July 16, Kamau, who contested the seat on a DCP ticket, secured a victory after garnering 35,440 votes.

He floored UDA Party’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who finished second with 5,450 votes.

Jubilee Party’s Wilson Mwaniki Kigwa got 198 votes, Stephen Wanyoike Waithaka of NLP got 103 votes, while Edwin Kariiri Muchiri of PNU got 28.

Abdifatah Hussein Abdullahi of FPK received 19 votes, Edward Mathenge Mwaniki of KMM got 16 votes, and Rachael Wangui Njoroge of PDP came in last with 11 votes.

Kamau will serve as the Ol Kalou lawmaker for the remainder of the 13th Parliament until the next General Election, scheduled for August 10, 2027.

Kamau, who is a native of Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County, attended AC Primary School before joining Utumishi Boys High School for his secondary education.

He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nairobi.

Kamau first ventured into elective politics in 2013 when he was elected the inaugural Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Karau Ward on a TNA/DP ticket.

Before his election to Parliament, he served as the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Coordinator for Nyandarua County, where he spearheaded grassroots party mobilisation.
