South C Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Abass Khalif has officially announced his intention to contest the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
This declaration sets the stage for a significant political contest, as Khalif aims to challenge the incumbent MP, Felix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalang’o. Both politicians are members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, indicating a potentially competitive primary election.
Khalif formally shared his aspirations on Sunday, December 14, addressing over 4,000 registered voters at the Technical University of Kenya parking lot. During the event, he emphasized the critical need for unity and robust grassroots leadership within the ODM party to foster development in the constituency.
“We should shun divisive politics and embrace unity which will usher in development for all,” Khalif stated, advocating for an end to discrimination. He also urged residents to register as voters, highlighting that only registered individuals would have a say in electing effective leaders.
A businessman and staunch ODM supporter, Khalif is positioning himself as a candidate who aligns closely with ODM’s core values and promises transparency in development initiatives.
His announcement follows earlier speculation about his political ambitions, particularly after he unveiled a Sh1.5 million sponsorship package for 54 football clubs in Lang’ata, demonstrating his commitment to youth engagement and sports development.
The Lang’ata seat is considered strategically important, especially for parties like ODM with a strong local base.
