Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says he has no issues with President William Ruto despite being impeached from office.
Speaking on Saturday during a funeral in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua said Mt Kenya residents were willing to give Ruto time to fulfill his promises.
“We have no problem with the President. We want to give him time for the remaining three years to fulfill the promises he made,” said Gachagua.
At the same time, the former DP urged MPs to use the speed with which he was impeached to pass the coffee bill.
“The speed they used to impeach me, let them use the same speed to pass the Coffee Bill. Let it be passed and be gazetted after presidential ascent. I want to urge Mt Kenya leaders who impeached me to use the same speed and efficiency to pass the Coffee Bill 2023 and Cooperative Bill 2023,” Gachagua stated.
Further Gachagua called on those in power to ensure that his legacy in the fight against illicit brewing in the Mt Kenya region would remain intact.
“I would like to ask those who have the opportunity to serve the public to not let the work I did be in vain. Because you will be hurting the young people, not Rigathi Gachagua and his family,” he added.
Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly and the Senate upheld the impeachment and voted to remove him from office.
He moved to court to stop Kithure Kindiki from taking over the Deputy President position but a three-judge bench lifted orders that blocked Kindiki from assuming the role.
The former Interior CS was sworn into office on Friday at an event held at KICC in Nairobi and was attended by senior government officials and foreign dignitaries.
