Arne Slot has confirmed that Diogo Jota will miss Liverpool’s match against Premier League title rivals Arsenal on Sunday due to an injury sustained during the team’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea the previous weekend.
Jota limped off the pitch in the 30th minute after colliding with Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo, missing Liverpool’s Champions League triumph over RB Leipzig.
Liverpool’s expanding absentee list includes goalkeeper Alisson and midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Slot also stated that summer signing Federico Chiesa will miss the trip to north London as he recovers from injury, but full-back Conor Bradley could return to the team.
“I think Bradley, Jota, Elliott, Alisson, and Chiesa feel good, but not for the weekend, Chiesa might train today, Diogo not, Conor, let’s see if he can be with us tomorrow,” Slot said in a news conference.
Liverpool has the Premier League’s best defensive record after seven games, conceding only three goals.
When asked how he has made his squad so defensively efficient, Slot replied “There are two reasons why we don’t concede much. One of them is that, with the exception of one, we dominated and controlled most of the game. It helps if you dominate, have the ball, and have a solid rest defense.”
