Harambee Stars endured a devastating and humiliating 8–0 defeat at the hands of a dominant Senegal side during an international friendly at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025. The match, widely described as a “one-sided show”, exposed Kenya’s tactical and structural weaknesses as the Teranga Lions delivered what many fans called a brutal football lesson.
Senegal stamped their authority from the opening whistle, racing to a 4–0 lead within the first 16 minutes, leaving Kenya’s defence overwhelmed and disorganized. Former Liverpool star Sadio Mané produced a masterful performance, scoring a hat-trick, including a well-taken penalty after Baron Ochieng brought him down inside the box. Bayern Munich striker Nicolas Jackson added a clinical brace, while Malick Diouf also found the net in what became a torturous first half for the Harambee Stars.
Speaking anonymously after the match, one Kenyan player admitted the team was completely outmatched:
“We were overwhelmed from the start. They were faster, sharper, and more organized. Every mistake we made turned into a goal.”
The second half offered no relief. Barely two minutes after the restart, Ibrahim Mbaye slotted in Senegal’s seventh goal, before Cherif Ndiaye sealed the rout with an 80th-minute penalty. Kenya struggled to maintain possession, string passes together, or create meaningful chances, often pinned deep in their own half by Senegal’s relentless pressure and superior physicality.
The defeat comes just days after Kenya’s 1–0 loss to Equatorial Guinea, also in Antalya, raising fresh concerns about the team’s readiness for upcoming AFCON and World Cup qualifiers. Fans took to social media to vent their frustration.
One supporter, Jenong Douglas, lamented: “The name Harambee means together. Walai hii nayo hatuko pamoja. Even Arsenal tried… their 8–2 loss to Manchester United was better.”
Another, Tom Ondoa, demanded accountability: “Something must change. Our players look unfit with no basics. Please don’t embarrass us at AFCON like this.”
Despite the humiliation, team members insist the defeat must be a wake-up call.
“This loss hurts, but we have to learn from it. We cannot perform like this again at international level,” the Kenyan player added. “We owe our fans a response.”
