Pundits and politicians both regard Pennsylvania as the most decisive state in the American election, with 19 electoral votes, the most of any swing state (Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and North Carolina).
Pennsylvania is so important that both Trump and Harris have stepped up their attempts to win the state, holding rallies and courting voters in key swing districts.
Pennsylvania has supported Democrats in every presidential election since 1992. In 2016, Trump won by less than one percentage point. US President Joe Biden won it again in 2020 by a little more than a percentage point.
Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania on November 5 might pose a significant challenge to Harris’ campaign.
He now has billionaire Elon Musk’s support, who has donated tens of millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign and is holding “a series of talks throughout Pennsylvania”. The internet entrepreneur is giving out $1 million per day to voters in swing areas.
“We want to try to get over a million, maybe 2 million voters in the battleground states to sign the petition in support of the First and Second Amendment. … We are going to be awarding $1 million randomly to people who have signed the petition, every day, from now until the election,” Musk said at a campaign event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
However, after flipping it in 2020 and winning down-ballot contests in 2022 — races for Congress, state legislatures, governor, judicial seats, and other state and municipal offices — Democrats would like to prevent Trump from winning the battleground state where early voting is already underway.
According to the latest polls, Harris is currently tied with Trump in Pennsylvania, while the two candidates are neck and neck nationally in the campaign for the White House.
According to a Washington Post-Schar School poll, Harris has a tiny lead in four important battleground states, while Trump leads in two.
