Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters on Thursday arrested three suspects and several vehicles believed to have been stolen recovered in Utawala, Nairobi.
In a statement, the DCI said the detectives were pursuing a case of a vehicle allegedly stolen from a garage along Kangundo Road.
Backed by a team from DCI Kayole, the detectives recovered numerous vehicles and vehicle parts suspected to have been stolen at a yard in Utawala.
“Three suspects believed to be members of a well-organized criminal ring that targets vehicles left for repair at garages were also rounded up in the operation, which was augmented by a team from DCI Kayole,” said DCI.
According to DCI, the three suspects conspired with the yard owner to steal a Toyota Allion Reg. No. KBM 157S whose owner had left it at the Kangundo Road repair shop, before starting to dismantle it for sale as spare parts.
Detectives stormed the yard whose owner was out of sight and made several recoveries including the reported Toyota Allion.
The others include three unidentified Toyota Probox cars, a Toyota station wagon chassis CE107-5008143, rear lights for the dismantled KBM 157S, eight box lorry containers, a Mistubishi truck, assorted vandalized engine parts, ten sets of vehicle registration plates, a Toyota Allion fixed with a Toyota Premio bonnet and boot and fixed with registration plates KBY 146F.
The owner of the yard was not around when detectives stormed the site, where the vehicles were recovered.
The suspects are being interrogated to identify more members of the criminal syndicate.
