The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives have arrested a supply chain management officer with a fake degree from Jomo Kenyatta University (JKUAT)
In a statement, EACC said the suspect who has been identified as Dennis Thuo forged a degree to get a job at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
“EACC has today arrested and arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court one Dennis Thuo Kimani, who forged his academic certificates to secure a job as a Supply Chain Management Officer at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC),” EACC stated.
According to the commission, the suspect also forged Transcripts from 1st to 4th year, purporting them to be genuine documents legitimately attained from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Thuo was arraigned before Anti-Corruption Principal Magistrate Hon. Gichana and denied the charges of forgery, uttering false documents, and fraudulent acquisition of public property, the cumulative amount of salaries, and benefits that he earned based on the fake certificates.
The suspect was released on a cash bail of Ksh 200,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh 700,000. The case will be mentioned on March 11, 2024.
This comes a week after EACC, DCI, and the Public Service Commission joined hands to weed out fake academic papers in the public service.
In a joint presser on February 13, PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri noted that the Commission undertook an authentication exercise on academic credentials, whose initial findings showed that over 2,000 public officers secured jobs, promotions, and re-designations using fake papers.
“According to the reports received by the Commission, there are substantial cases of forged academic and professional certificates used for the award of appointments, promotions or re-designation in the public service,” said Muchiri.
