Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is in a stable condition and undergoing tests in hospital after falling ill during training on Thursday, the club have confirmed.
The 76-year-old, the oldest manager in the Premier League, was due to speak at a press conference at 1.30 pm on Thursday to preview Monday’s Premier League clash with Everton, but members of the media gathered outside the club’s New Beckenham training ground were told that they would not take place.
Later on Thursday, the club issued an update which read: “Following the news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during training today, we can confirm that he is now stable and undergoing hospital tests. Everyone at the club sends Roy their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Hodgson took charge of his 200th game in charge of the Eagles on Monday when Chelsea beat them 3-1 at Selhurst Park.
The former England boss is in his second spell in charge of the south London outfit, having returned on a short-term deal for the final ten games of last season to replace the sacked Patrick Vieira.
He led the club to an 11th-placed finish before committing to return as manager for the 2023-24 season.
Palace have won just six of their 24 league games this season, with only three of those coming since a 1-0 win over Manchester United in September.
In recent weeks, disgruntled fans have raised banners calling for Hodgson’s sacking and expressed their dissatisfaction with the club’s management.
Hodgson could be replaced by Austrian Glasner, who led Frankfurt to the Europa League title in 2022 after a penalty shootout triumph over Rangers in Seville.
The 49-year-old, who previously managed Wolfsburg, has been out of work since leaving the Bundesliga club last summer.
