Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Diogo Jota will be on the sideline for months. The Portuguese forward was replaced 44 minutes into the Reds’ 4-1 win at Brentford on Saturday due to a knee injury.
He had just been back in the Premier League for seven games after missing most of December due to a muscular injury, yet he scored five goals and assisted three others. Klopp indicated that there will be no speedy recovery this time, speaking in his news conference ahead of Liverpool’s encounter against Luton at Anfield on Wednesday.
“With Diogo, it will take months. With injuries, you have important days, day five, day 10 is then when you judge the situation again because nobody reacts in the same way and it depends on the pain level they still have. I couldn’t give you a time frame, even if I wanted to, so that’s how it is.” Said the Liverpool manager.
Klopp did not provide a firm response regarding the injury status of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. Nunez was also withdrawn at the Gtech Community Stadium, while Salah, who scored and assisted in west London, has been questioned about his availability for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.
Liverpool could have up to nine absentees for next Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. Next up are games against Manchester City and Everton. Klopp admits he has issues ahead of a crucial stage of the season, as his team fights on four fronts.
