Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu has directed the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to extend the application deadline for a week.
In a communique on Monday, February 26, CS Machogu detailed that the deadline should be pushed to March 4, 2024, to allow enough time for students to complete their applications.
“Further to the extension notice issued by KUCCPS on February 25, 2022, and to ensure that all the remaining applicants get a chance to submit their choices both to universities and colleges, the Ministry of Education has instructed the Placement Agency to extend the deadline for seven more days, until March 4, 2024,” said Machogu.
On Sunday KUCCPs announced the extension of the deadline until it ascertains that all targeted students have applied. This is after Kenyans raised concerns about the portal’s technical errors.
CS Machogu acknowledged the challenges in the application process noting that the Education Ministry is working with other stakeholders to address the challenges.
“The Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in Government are working together to ensure that the challenges are addressed and all applicants are facilitated to apply for programs and institutions of their choice,” Machogu remarked.
Additionally, the Education CS said a technical team comprising representatives from relevant agencies – has been put together to fast-track the application transactions.
“In the meantime, applicants whose payments are experiencing unusual delays are encouraged to use the USSD code *222# to confirm their payments and/or trigger validation. A detailed procedure for the process is to be disseminated by KUCCPS immediately,” Machogu added.
