Multimedia University Students have called on Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to confirm their acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Rosebella Maranga.
Addressing the media on Monday, Multimedia University Students Union president Hillary Ayoo issued an ultimatum to CS Machogu threatening consequences if he fails to act.
“Failure to act promptly and decisively will result in unspecified consequences. As comrades, we stand firm in our demand for swift action. The future of Multimedia University of Kenya depends on it,” said Ayoo.
He noted that Professor Maranga embodies the qualities of a distinguished leader and manager, and her confirmation as Vice Chancellor presents Multimedia University with an opportunity to share in her expertise and vision.
“Having served as DVC Administration, Finance and Planning, she has offered exemplary service to the university for 10 years and has excellent relationship with the entire Multimedia University community.
“Prof Rosebella Maranga is a distinguished female leader in the “who is who’ in the world. She has led the university through great feats notably the “ISO certification 2013”, good financial management, Strategic Plan and accreditation of key courses in the university,” Ayoo added.
The MUKSA leader further noted that those opposed to the acting VC should be disregarded by the Education CS.
“It is imperative that any opposing voices be disregarded as they only serve to perpetuate impunity, thievery, and mismanagement. We will not tolerate any obstruction to the progress and development of our university,” the student leader added.
“We urge the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Honorable Ezekiel Machogu, to swiftly confirm this appointment.”
Professor Maranga was appointed by President William Ruto as the MMU Vice-Chancellor in an acting position in January.
