President William Ruto has mourned the death of former State House Comptroller and Kenyan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Netherlands Lawrance Lenayapa.
In a statement on Thursday, Ruto eulogized Lenayapa as a dedicated public servant who will be missed.
The Head of State also sent his condolences to the family of Lenayapa.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador Lawrence Lenayapa who has passed away. The country has lost a dedicated public servant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and their loved ones at this time. Rest In Peace, Lawrence,” said Ruto.
Lenayapa passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 59. His death was announced by Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani.
“My condolences to the family of Amb Lawrence Lenayapa following his passing on this morning. May Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace and give solace to the family,” Yattani stated.
Lenayapa served as the State House Comptroller from 2013 to 2018 under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In 2018 Uhuru appointed him as Kenya’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Netherlands a position he served until 2022 when he was replaced by Margaret Shava.
During his tenure in the Netherlands, Lenayapa held the role of Permanent Representative of Kenya to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and led Kenya’s delegation to various other international organizations in the country.
In July 2020, Lenayapa made headlines after he wrote to the International Criminal Court rejecting four candidates that had been shortlisted for the position of ICC prosecutor.
The former State House Comptroller argued that the candidates had limited managerial experience in large international institutions and did not have demonstrable diplomatic experience, particularly in engagement with States.
