Barcelona midfielder Bonmati won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the first time after helping Spain attain their first World Cup victory in August and winning the league and Champions League double at club level.

Bonmati received the Golden Ball for the best World Cup player in Australia and New Zealand, and she was recently voted UEFA Women’s Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old became the second Spanish player to win the Women’s Ballon d’Or, following Barcelona teammate Alexia Putellas, who won the honor the previous two years.

Bonmati won the award ahead of Chelsea and Australia attacker Sam Kerr, while England and Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps came in sixth after earning the Golden Glove at the World Cup. Rachel Daly (10th), Millie Bright (11th), and Georgia Stanway (23rd) were among the nominees for the fifth edition of the women’s award, with Katie McCabe of Arsenal and the Republic of Ireland finishing 22nd.

Meanwhile, Bonmati’s team Barcelona was named Women’s Club of the Year after winning the Champions League and the Spanish League last season.
