Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen have been forced to withdraw from Denmark’s team due to injury. Both players were substituted early in Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League win over Luton Town at Old Trafford, as manager Erik ten Hag was without eight first-team players.
Hojlund, the striker bought for £72 million, departed the pitch near the final whistle of the game with a hamstring injury, while Eriksen, the midfielder, sustained a knee injury in the first half.
Injury has already sidelined Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Jonny Evans, and Amad Diallo for Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho remains suspended due to a disciplinary issue, while Aaron-Wan Bissaka, who had just returned from injury, missed Saturday’s game due to illness.
When asked about the injury to Hojlund, United’s leading scorer this season, Ten Hag remarked on Saturday: “Right now, I can’t say anything about it because I don’t know. We do an assessment but have to wait for 24 hours to see what the conclusion is. Give them, the medical team, 24 hours to see what the problem is, if there is a problem.”
It is unknown how long Hojlund will be out, with United next in action following the international break on November 26 when they travel to Everton in the Premier League.
Losing Hojlund, United’s clear first-choice striker, for an extended period of time might be detrimental to Ten Hag ahead of a difficult run of games, including a must-win game at Galatasaray that will determine their Champions League fate.
Newcastle and Chelsea are up next, with a trip to Liverpool on December 17th.
