Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has appointed Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s younger brother Abdi Bare Duale as the chairperson of the Kenya Railways Corporation Board of Directors.
According to a gazette notice on Friday, February 9, Bare will serve in the position for a period of three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 4 (a) of the Kenya Railway Corporation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Abdi Bare Duale to be the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railway Corporation for a period of three (3) years with effect from Friday, February 9, 2024. Gazette Notice Number 2873/2023 is revoked,” the gazette notice reads in part.
Bare will replace Muhumed Abdi Mohamed, whose appointment has been revoked.
Before the appointment, Bare served as the chairperson of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).
He has also served as the chairperson of the Kenya Leather Development Council and a member of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board.
Bare’s appointment as the KETRACO chairperson was revoked by President Ruto and will be replaced by Muhumed Abdi Mohamed.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 3 (a) of the Articles of Association of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, and section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoints Muhumed Adi Mohamed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 9th February, 2024. The appointment of Abdi Bare Duale is revoked,” the gazette notice read.
