President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Monday, February 26 held a meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at his Kisozi home in Uganda.
In a statement via X, Ruto said they discussed issues of interest for both Kenya and Uganda adding that energy and petroleum featured in the discussion.
“Had the pleasure of meeting President @KagutaMuseveni at his Kisozi country home in Uganda. We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum,” said Ruto.
He added, “Kenya and Uganda are committed to the deepening of the long-established diplomatic and economic ties between our two countries. This relationship includes bringing all the seven East African Community nations closer in their ultimate goal to form the East African Political Federation.”
President Ruto also noted that they discussed Raila’s candidature for the African Union Commission chairmanship.
“Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister @RailaOdinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship,” Ruto stated.
Raila on February 15 announced his interest in replacing Moussa Faki when his term lapses by March 2025.
The former Prime Minister will first need to consolidate the seven member states of the East African Community (EAC) which comprises Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, and South Sudan.
Then he will need support from the rest of the African presidents who are the members of the African Union.
