Kenyan police today arrested Finance Minister Henry Rotich after the director of public prosecutions announced he would be charged over a dam scandal. The CS was summoned to the DCI headquarters and is being interrogated.
He is accused of making irregular payments of up to KSh20 billion to Italian firm CMC di Ravenna for the construction of the two dams.

The CS is facing the charges alongside his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge and other top officials from Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA). NEMA DG Geoffrey Wahungu has also been arrested and a total 28 officials and entities are to be charged.
According to the DPP, the named officers will faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, failure to comply with the applicable procedures and guidelines on procurement, abuse of office, engaging in a project without prior planning among others.
“After analyzing the evidence gathered by the Director of Criminal Investigations, I am satisfied that economic crimes were committed and I have therefore approved their arrests and prosecutions,” Haji told a news conference in Nairobi. He also asked the accused officials to step down from office
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to announce an acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary later today and an acting Treasury PS in line with his declaration during the State of the Nation address in April.
