Kenya on Tuesday won a bid to host the prestigious 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS-24).

The announcement was made by Smart Africa, the co- ordinating secretariat for ICT programmes and activities for the African Continent during the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain.

ICT CS Eliud Owalo who was president expressed his delight noting that the victory underscores Kenya’s standing as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) powerhouse and a regional leader in driving the transformative impact of ICTs on socio-economic development; augmented by the transformational leadership espoused by President William Ruto.

“This win is a testament to the confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance places in Kenya and its leadership. It solidifies our Nation’s tradition as a home for high-profile international conferences, an ICT investment destination of choice and highlights Kenya’s commitment to advancing the Digital Agenda in Africa,” said Owalo.

The bidding process for the summit was initiated in November last year, through the Communication Authority, reflecting Kenya’s determination to secure the hosting rights and showcase the Nation’s capabilities on a global stage.

The Transform Africa Summit, organized annually by the Smart Africa Alliance, is the foremost continental forum uniting global and regional ICT leaders from government, business and international organizations.

This collaboration aims to explore innovative approaches to shaping, accelerating and sustaining Africa’s ongoing digital revolution.

The Transform Africa Summit is scheduled to take place in Nairobi from 28th-30th August this year.

Present during the event in Spain included the African Union Commissioner in charge of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitization Dr Amani Abu-Zeid and ITU secretary general Doreen Bogdan-Martin.

Communications Authority chairperson Mary Wambui and DG David Mugonyi and ICT ministers from various African countries including Zimbabwe, Ghana, Madagascar, Gabon, Rwanda and Burundi were also present
