Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has declared his dissatisfaction with First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto inviting Israel-American Televangelist Benny Hinn to Kenya.
In a statement via X, Kuria said it was wrong to allow the preacher to share his views on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
He wondered how the Nyayo crusade where Benny Hinn made the remarks was a quasi-state function.
“It is wrong to give an Israeli preacher an opportunity to give one sided views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on National TV and in such a quasi State function,” said Kuria.
Kuria added that Kenya supported the rights of Palestinian people for self-determination.
“Kenya continues to call for a cessation of hostilities even as we show solidarity with Israel over the October 7th terror attacks. Kenya supports the rights of Palestinian people for self-determination,” the Public Service CS stated.
Hinn was born in Jaffa, Israel in 1952 and baptized in Jerusalem where he started his journey of faith. The televangelist who was born to parents with Greek, Palestinian, and Armenian heritage has on numerous occasions called for peace between the warring countries.
Benny visited Kenya following a request from First Lady Rachel Ruto and other preachers in the country to host a two-day crusade at Nyayo Stadium.
The crusade was attended by President William Ruto, his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and other top government officials.
In October 2023, President Ruto condemned the attack on Israel by the Hamas group which led to a war between Israel and Palestine.
“Kenya joins the rest of the world in solidarity with the State of Israel and unequivocally condemns terrorism and attacks on innocent civilians in the country,” Ruto stated then.
