Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has declined his appointment by President William Ruto as his advisor.
Rotich had been appointed as the Senior Adviser on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy in a letter from the Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei.
Speaking on Friday, Rotich said he would not take up the role but instead said he would serve the country better at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), his former employer.
“I thank the president for appointing me to be among his advisers. I, however, think I’d be of better service to the country if I go back to CBK where I worked for many years, “ said Rotich.
The Former CS was in December 2023 acquitted in the Ksh.63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
Rotich and eight other co-accused persons were set free by Trial Magistrate Eunice Nyutu who ruled that the prosecution had failed to lead the case.
Nyutu while issuing the ruling on December 14 said Rotich and the co-accused had no case to answer as no evidence was tabled in court to warrant them being placed on their defense.
“All the accused persons in this case are hereby acquitted under section 210 due to lack of evidence as a result of the reckless dereliction of duty by the prosecution,” Nyutu ruled.
Rotich who served as the Treasury CS under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2020 was sacked and replaced by Ukur Yatani.
Before his appointment as a Cabinet Secretary in 2013, Rotich was the head of Macroeconomics at the Treasury.
Rotich holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
