President William Ruto on Saturday, February 3 put on notice incompetent and corrupt civil servants.

Speaking in Kakamega County, the President said the government has declared total war on corrupt officers, saying those found culpable will be sacked and prosecuted.

President Ruto ordered the sacking, arrest and prosecution of state officials accused of irregularly issuing licenses for the operation of a gas plant that resulted in an explosion on Friday.

He argued that what happened in Embakasi, was a result of corruption, lack of integrity, and greed among government officials responsible for granting the license to the operator.

Ruto asked the Ministry of Energy to ensure the people implicated in the matter vacate office with immediate effect and face charges for the offenses committed.

“Government officials issued licenses for gas installations in residential areas when it was very clear that it was the wrong thing to do, but because of incompetence and corruption they issued licenses,” said President Ruto.

at the same time, the Head of State expressed concern that many public sugar factories have collapsed in the country because of corruption.

“I want to assure Kenyans that we have put in place proper mechanisms to ensure our public sugar factories are well managed as part of efforts to reform the sector,” said President Ruto.

He said corrupt individuals will not be allowed to continue holding government office and being paid with taxpayers’ money.

Meanwhile, President Ruto said Sh 2.6 billion has been set aside to connect 38,000 households in the ongoing last-mile connectivity program.

He said the provision of electricity remains key to the successful operationalization of projects such as ICT hubs, among others.

Ruto further told Western Kenya leaders to put aside their political differences and take a common stand on matters of development.

“Elections ended in 2022 and it’s time for leaders to deliver on the promises they made to Kenyans,” said Ruto.
