Kylian Mbappe will take a wage cut to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, in what has already been dubbed “the most expensive free transfer in history.”
The France international, who has already informed PSG that he will depart at the end of the season, will join Real on July 1.
Real Madrid has long been interested in the 25-year-old and is willing to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, but on a smaller salary than he receives at PSG, where his annual compensation is £171 million. Real are still discussing the final elements of Mbappe’s deal, and terms have yet to be agreed.

Real Madrid made an offer of £188 million (€220 million) for Mbappe in August 2021, which PSG declined.
The attacker then decided to sign a new three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club. Mbappe was scheduled to join Real in May 2022 until he did a spectacular U-turn and signed a new two-year contract with PSG, prompting La Liga to submit a complaint with UEFA alleging that the French club had violated FFP regulations.
