Moses Wetangula
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is one of the veteran politicians having spent over three decades in Kenyan politics.
Wetangula who is famous by his moniker Papa Wa Roma was nominated by KANU in 1992 before serving as the MP for Sirisia from 2003 to 2013. He then served as the Bungoma Senator from 2013 to 2022. He has held senior government posts including the Minister of Trade and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Just like any other politician, Wetangula has made significant investments in the real estate business and owns multiple apartments in Syokimau, Machakos County known as 360 Court Apartments.
They feature exquisite two-bedroom and three-bedroom units with separate bathrooms, enormous kitchens, dining, and living areas, and elegant fixtures. There are various conveniences in the vicinity, including abundant parking and 24-hour security.
The apartments have however been dogged by criticism since its establishment. Former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua during his time as the county boss claimed that Wetangula’s apartments are built on riparian land.
In 2012, Syokimau residents moved to court and filed a lawsuit to stop further development of the apartments.
The Machakos High Court in 2015 ruled in their favor, and Wetangula was prohibited from developing additional units, Blocks 15 and 18, within the 360 Court Apartments complex.
Wetangula was also instructed to modify a perimeter wall adjacent to the surrounding households in order to allow free passage of stormwater for appropriate drainage.
