Police Officers have arrested three judicial officers in Makueni County.
In a statement on Wednesday, the National Police Service (NPS) said the three suspects were issuing fake receipts for payment of court fines and forfeitures and subsequent release of accused persons.
The three include; Court Assistant Nelson Munyaka, Accountant David Mwaura, and Court Driver William Musembi.
“Police in Nunguni Police Post, Makueni County on 27/02/2024 detained three judicial officers among them Court Assistant Nelson Munyaka, Accountant David Mwaura, and Court Driver William Musembi.
“The trio is suspected of conspiring and issuing fake receipts for payment of court fines and forfeitures and subsequent release of accused persons from either Court or Police stations,” NPS stated.
According to NPS, the suspects forged receipts amounting to Ksh 161,000 between February 14, 2024, and February 16, 2024.
The receipts involved traffic cases where the accused pleaded guilty and were fined.
“Today, forged receipts amounting to Kshs 161,000/= were verified and established to have been issued between Feb 14, 2024, and Feb 16, 2024, with respect to some traffic cases where accused persons had pleaded guilty and fined. The suspects are assisting the Police with the investigation,” NPS added.
