Controversial gospel singers Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe have been ordered to pull down their latest songs from across all media platforms for violating the Films and Stage Plays Act.
The Kenya Film Classification Board in a statement on Wednesday castigated the two musicians’s songs titled ‘Niko Uchi’ and ‘Yesu Ninyandue’ respectively saying they contravene the law and threaten the safety of children and the general public at large.
“The unpalatable songs, which also contravene Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya are circulating on social media and other media platforms, eliciting sharp reactions and outcry from the public.
“The song titled: ‘Niko Uchi’, which is a purported gospel invites ridicule to the Christian religion, and also contains nudity, and vulgarity. It has further been noted that some of the artist’s dancing styles are violent and others present imitable behavior, which if copied by children/minors, can be dangerous and disastrous,” read the statement in part.
KFCB chief executive Nelly Muluka noted that the board has written a demand letter to Embarambamba and Getumbe to pull down the content.
“A demand letter has been issued to: (Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe) to pull down any inappropriate content from their various platforms. failure to which, they will face the law in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya,” Muluka stated.
She also said KFCB has written to relevant platforms to pull down the inappropriate content by Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe.
The board further cautioned one Bishop Johanna over doing inappropriate religious content to mislead the public through indecent exposure performances, with sexual innuendos.
“It is more appalling that adults who should be gatekeepers in protecting children from exposure to harmful content are taking the lead in circulating these inappropriate videos,” KFCB stated.
