Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong’o has cautioned Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd against doing business with Israel amid escalating tension in Gaza.

In a statement on Monday evening, Governor Nyong’o said the Israeli Economic and Trade Mission was in Kenya to meet Bidco Group Chairman, Vimal Shah and the two discussed collaboration with Israeli companies in the FMCG sectors.

“I have noted with concern, a decision by one of Kenya’s largest companies- Bidco Oil Refineries Ltd to do business deals with Israel, a country facing global condemnation for its bloody attacks on the Palestinians,” read the statement in part.

The Kisumu Governor went on to urge Bidco against doing business with Israel, indicating that the company could face similar sanctions that would be imposed on Israel.

Nyong’o noted that the only way to resolve the conflict between the two countries is to adopt a two-state solution.

“We are calling our brother Vimal to restrain his company from taking this move in line with the decisions taken by the United Nations Organization and the International Court of Justice. The two-state approach is the only viable way of solving the conflict between Israel and her neighbours,” Nyong’o added.

In November 2023, President William Ruto while not taking any side in the conflict supported the idea of a two-state solution.

“We believe that Palestine should be a free state and we stand for a two-state solution as a means of resolving the conflict,” Ruto stated during a meeting of African leaders in UAE.

The Israel-Palestine war has led to the death of  25,000 Palestinians, including women, children, the old, and the sick. Thousands have been injured while some 1.9 million others have been displaced.
