President William Ruto has appealed to Kenyans to support the housing levy.

Speaking on Sunday during the Salvation Army Centenary celebrations at the Ulinzi Complex in Nairobi County, Ruto said the fee will make the Affordable Housing Programme a success.

The President noted that the aim is to give low-income earners, especially those living in slums, a chance to own homes.

He explained that the programme will also create jobs for hundreds of thousands of the youth in the country.

“It is our responsibility to contribute to the housing levy that will help us ensure those without decent homes become homeowners,” he said.

President Ruto also urged Kenyans with arable land to take advantage of the various government agricultural initiatives to increase productivity.

This, he explained, will help the country to achieve its food security goals.

“As a government, we have done our part with the provision of adequate and affordable seeds and fertiliser,” he said.

“I urge you to plant food so that we can eradicate hunger in our country.”

Ruto mentioned that the government is investing in programmes and policies that will create many jobs for Kenyans.

He said the government has started various job creation initiatives, including the establishment of digital hubs, special economic zones and county aggregation and industrial parks.

The Head of State also said the export of Kenya’s professional workforce and the construction of 400 fresh produce markets will also expand opportunities for Kenyans.

“If we work together in the implementation of these programmes, we will build a country that does not leave anyone behind,” he said.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on his part asked Christians to continue praying for the country’s development and prosperity.

“Last year, the President led the nation in prayers for rain and eventually this has led to bumper harvests,” he said.
